Covid-19 pandemic taking toll on mental health of children

Srinagar, April 06 (KNB): The scare of coronavirus followed by lockdown is a cause of mental disturbance and stress among the people of the entire world, slowly over throwing the mental health of kids as well as teens.

Pertinently, the number of corona virus cases are sharply jumping over day by day taking huge number of people in its grip, not only effecting the affected person by either making them physical unfit or taking away their lives but deeply affects the mental strength among the children.

Parveez Ahmad, one of the parent of a 12-year old kid said, “Abas, my 12 year old boy who normally used to go to school, play in lawn, venture out is now locked and detained inside amid deadly COVID-19 , thus impinging not only my son but a lot of kids like him in complete distress.”

Haneefa, another parent said, ” I can see hell of changes in my daughter after the outbreak of covid -19 globally, such as increased physical symptoms, changes in sleeping habits, appetite and reduced energy.”

She further said, “My daughter was happy go lucky kind of a person before lockdown, but now whenever I look into her eyes I can sense a constant fear and I am very much worried about her.”

While talking to Kashmir News Dr. Rukaya Paedologist said, ” A lot of Psychical or thinking changes are very common among the children due to the fear of deadly covid-19 which includes distraction and forgetfulness.”

“Adolescents might also become more withdrawn or socially isolated leading finally to the increased worries about health, studies and a their future,” she further added.
