Drive to Axe female Russian poplar trees starts in North Kashmir’s Baramulla District

Baramulla 7 April(KNB):On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla the State Forest Corporation and Social Forestry department under the supervision of Divisional Manager State Forest Corporation kick started drive for axing of female poplar trees on Tuesday in North Kashmir’s Baramulla District.

The drive started from Various areas of Baramulla which include Rafiabad,Pattan,Uri and other areas.

On the occasion officers from District administration and officers from State Forest Corporation and Social forestry were also present.

Divisional Manager State Forest Corporation Mr Hakeem Mukhtar told Kashmir News Bureau that female poplar trees producing pollens has been considered hazardous for human health by the health experts and in pursuance of the J&K High court directions and on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Baramulla the department has started axing of these trees.

DFO Social Forestry Baramulla Mr Rashid Ahmad Lala(Nodal officer) also added that support and cooperation from the general public is needed to take the drive to its logical end as the drive of felling of Russian poplar will continue for the next few days to eradicate the menace completely.(KNB)
