Junaid Sehri among two Hizb Militants Killed in Nawakadal Encounter

Srinagar 19 May(KNB): Two militants were killed and three security forces personnel were injured on Tuesday in an encounter in Nawakadal area of Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

According to reports reached to KNB, A police spokesperson said based on a credible input about the presence of militants in Kanimazar Nawal Kadal area of Srinagar district, cordon-and-search-operation (CASO) was launched by the army and police during wee hours of Monday.

“As the searches were going on, militants fired upon which was retaliated by the forces leading to a gunfight. In the ongoing encounter, two militants were killed and a policeman, three CRPF personnel were injured,” he said.

The militant were identified as Junaid Sehrai S/O Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai- Hurriyat chief and Tariq Ahmad Sheikh of Pulwama

Junaid Joined militancy on 24 March 2018 when his pic with Ak 47 surfaced on social media networks. He was the son Chief of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai. He was one of the last listed militants from the Srinagar district.

Meanwhile, since october 2018 this is the first gunfight in Srinagar after two LeT militants were killed.

Pertaintely, Top Hizb Commander Riyaz Naikoo was killed early this month in Pulwama along with his associate.

Mobile internet and voice services- (except BSNL) were snapped in the district to prevent the spread of rumours.(KNB)
