Srinagar, June 22(KNB): J&K state pollution control board has ordered immediate closure of M/S Snow Cap Milk Processing Plant Chesmahai Srinagar of M/S J&K milk producers cooperative Ltd for violation of notices issued against the plant.

The notice issued by J&K state pollution control board on 19 Feb 2018 reads ”In exercise of powers vested in the J&K state pollution control board under section 31 (A) of the Air (Prevention and control of pollution, Act, 1981,immediate closure of M/S Snow Cap Milk Processing Plant Chesmahai Srinagar of M/S J&K Milk Producers Cooperative Ltd is hereby ordered and in this behalf the:

III) Director Industries and Commerce Kashmir for deregistering the unit.

IV) General manager M/S J&K milk producers Cooperative Ltd is directed to cease the operation of the unit forthwith.”

Pertain to mention here that earlier many legal notices were issued against the plant to improve the efficiency of ETP which as per reports submitted by D.O Srinagar and I/C water lab were not repeatedly meeting the permissible standards but the unit owners failed to do so hence violating the laws.

Moreover, besides repeated notices the management has failed to show any tenable response and has failed to take measures to meet the requirements of laws governing environmental protection, after which State pollution control board issued strong notices to the various departments to snap all facilities including electricity and registration of the said unit.(KNB)
