Police foils contractors March Foiled

Srinagar, Feb 27 (KNB): Police on Tuesday foiled a protest rally of Kashmir based contractors who were trying to march towards chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Gupkar residence.On the otherhand, the protesting contractors held a protest at Press Enclave here and decided to boycott all developmental works and tenders till pending payments are not released.

While they tried to step out of the enclave to march towards the CM’s residence at Gupkar, police swung into action and bundled several protesters in their vans. The protesting contractors are demanding release of pending payments worth Rs 350 crore from various government departments and doing away with the online bill payment system.

On the otherhand, J&K Central Contractors Coordination Committee, general secretary Farooq Ahmad Dar said government has been showing an “indifferent attitude” towards Valley based contractors “All the funds lapsed in Kashmir are being diverted towards Ladakh and Jammu.

“The online system of billing introduced by the state government is not suitable for Kashmir where every now and then there is e-curfew,” Dar said.
